My Story

Richard Evans, POL - Bushcraft, Survival and Wilderness Living Instructor

​

Richard combines a lifelong, passion for the outdoors with decades of leadership experience within industry. As a recognised professional within the Institute of Outdoor Learning and a fully qualified instructor, he specialises in teaching essential bushcraft, survival, and wilderness living skills.​ His approach is relaxed, fun, and always focused on the learner's experience. He uses the immersive environment of the wilderness to not only teach practical skills but also to foster key traits like resilience, decision-making, and self-reliance.

Richard's distinct value lies in his dual expertise, allowing him to deliver highly credible and comprehensive training:

 

​Certified Wilderness Skills

Richard’s passion for the outside world began early, nurtured through his time in Cubs, Scouts, and Army Cadets. Today, that enthusiasm is backed by high-level training and professional qualifications:

​

  • NCFE Level 4: Bushcraft, Survival and Wilderness Instructor

  • NCFE Level 3 Certifications: Land Navigation, Primitive Crafts, Foraging, Axe Proficiency and Charcoal Making, and Animal Tracking.

  • NNAS Silver: Navigator Award

  • Safety & Compliance: He holds Outdoor First Aid, Level 2 Food & Hygiene, and an Enhanced DBS

 

Chartered Leadership & Management

Drawing on his extensive industry background, Richard integrates a powerful leadership component into his training programs.​

​

  • Richard has a proven track record of leading teams, coaching, and mentoring individuals to achieve their full potential, successfully delivering complex, multi-million-pound projects both nationally and internationally.

  • He is a Chartered Manager (CMI): This ensures all instruction benefits from contemporary leadership and management best practice.

  • Richard holds a BA Hons First Class in Leadership and Management and is currently studying towards an MBA.

  • 30+ Years Experience within Defence & Engineering sectors, including roles at senior management levels.

 

Community and Personal Life

Richard strongly believes in giving back and passing on these vital skills to the next generation. He volunteers as the Lead bushcraft instructor for the Scout Association, Old Scout Bushcraft Club, and actively participates in other outdoor activities in support of good causes and charities.When he is not working or volunteering, Richard enjoys time with his family and two dogs. They are avid travellers who love camping and exploring in their camper van.

He is now in a fortunate position to be able to combine all the elements of his life to provide outdoor  training and leadership development.
